💜 RUGER 💜

Hello, I’m Ruger. I am a young German Shepherd mix, and if you look into my soft, soulful eyes, you will see a "lost soul" who is desperately searching for a reason to trust. I spent months roaming the streets of Limassol with my brother, Rumi. While my brother was brave enough to be caught first, I followed a day later, knowing I couldn't be without him. Now that I am at the shelter, the world feels very overwhelming, and I am still trying to figure out how to be a "pet."

I am a very shy boy who currently finds comfort in the shadows. When new people approach my pen, I tend to hide at the back because I’m just not sure what to expect. However, I am not an aggressive boy at all; I am simply terrified. I will allow those I know to gently stroke my muzzle, and even though I shake when I'm scared, I am always gentle. I’m not quite ready to take treats from a hand yet, but I’ve made great progress—I will happily eat wet food from a spoon held by a friend!

I find a huge amount of security in other dogs. I am wonderful at sharing my space and I get on really well with other males. I believe I would truly benefit from living with a confident, friendly dog who can show me the ropes and teach me that the world isn't such a scary place after all.

My dream home is a very specific one. I am looking for a quiet, patient sanctuary with a family who has experience with scared dogs or someone who works from home and is able to be around him often to show him that he’s ok. I need a secure garden where I can roam and sniff the grass at my own pace without the pressure of going for walks until I am ready. Because I am so sensitive, I would be best suited to a home with calm, older children who understand that I need plenty of space and time to come out of my shell.

I am currently being treated for Anaplasma and I am Leishmania positive, but I don't let that stop me from hoping for a better life. I am a project of the heart—a dog who will require time, gentleness, and a lot of quiet love. But for the right person, the day I finally wag my tail or lean in for a cuddle will be the most rewarding moment in the world.

Ruger is currently in Cyprus looking for a home in UK. He will be neutered, vaccinated, chipped, treated for parasites, have his own pet passport and rescue back up from Saving Souls Animal Rescue.
